The Blake construction method; preferred by Italian shoemakers, is a very regular process used in the manufacture of high-quality footwear that is ideal for those who are looking for comfort from de first day. In Crownhill Shoes we rely on this traditional process and we produce a wide variety of models in our Classic line, for this reason we want to let you know the secrets of footwear that makes an exceptional relationship in terms of style, construction and comfort.

Single sewing

This technique is characterized by carrying out an internal seam that fixes the shoe cover to the insole and this to the sole, being detectable from the outside. This sewing performed from inside the shoe, cannot be done by hand and it requires special machinery; hence the inception of this procedure goes back to the industrial revolution. The advantages face to processes based on gluing are quite important, although it should be noted that it provides greater strength by increasing the durability of the footwear.

Foam layer

The purpose of the entire construction of the Blake shoe is to achieve a very pleasant footprint, that is why we have applied a patented foam bed between the sole and the insole. This foam layer with a soft and malleable texture produces a feeling of comfort every time we put the shoe on, at the same time that it serves as filler for the space made in the shoe when the welt is installed. It is very light, adapts perfectly to the shape of the sole of our foot and is made of a material that allows perspiration.

Leather midsole

It is 1.5 mm thick and forms the upper part of the midsole. It is made of vegetable tanned leather, hence it is flexible and facilitates perspiration, and incorporates a metal shank to give consistency to the base of the shoe and stabilize the footprint.

Leather insole

To ensure that the foot does not rest directly on the insole, the Blake construction shoes incorporates a full leather tanned vegetable insole. Being padded and highly flexible, it gives a very pleasant sensation on contact. Given the proximity of the foot with the insole, a second layer of foam has been adhered to the top to add better comfort.

Mixed outsole

It is a sort of thin and ultra flexible sole thanks to the tanning process where the tannins are replaced during the final stage by oils that give the leather greater elasticity. On than that an incision is made on the sole of 1.5 mm in order to inject rubber liquid that, when solidified, is perfectly integrated on the surface. This "spy" not only respects the properties of leather, but also promotes a better grip and offers greater resistance to wear. It is an ideal sole for the warmest months, as it is extremely breathable and hardly overheats with friction.

Rubber outsole

Among the Blake construction models in our collection you can find a variant of some models on rubber soles. Being very resistant and lightweight, the main desirability is its exceptional waterproofing, being the best option to prevent moisture to get in the shoe even in the worst conditions. Having a buttoned surface and the rough texture of the heel prevent the danger of slipping in any type of ground.

Inner lining

It does have a flexible and thin box calf leather lining placed inside to provide a very comfortable fit. The vegetable tanning does not have any mineral pigments that usually cover the pores, that is why the leather facilitates perspiration, providing a sensation of freshness.
